The guqin, a seven-stringed zither, is one of China's oldest
instruments, with a history of some 3000 years. The guqin
expresses the essence of Chinese music, with a capacity to
produce over 100 harmonics. The guqin has its own notation,
which itself has a history of at least 1500 years. In 2003,
UNESCO proclaimed it one of the masterpieces of the
heritage of humanity.
